SVCTE Fashion Show

During this time in SVCTE, the fashion class was suppose to make a collection out of thrifted clothes and make them brand new again. I wish I could have sat in the seats but I was busy helping everyone get dressed which was okay too. I am proud of my group especially for pulling together and getting what they needed done. The other groups also pulled together during this and we finished our collections.

We also did an Avant Garde collection look but we managed to pull everything off on time. We decided to do the avant garde last minute but it worked out great.

Manufactured Fibers

Manufactured fibers takes raw materials and chemicals to be made.  These fabrics are usually made of filaments extruded as liquid and formed into various fibers. Because the fiber starts as a liquid, many of the fibers are colored before they become filament, thus they are difficult to dye after the fiber is woven into a fabric. Types of manufactured and man made fabrics are: ACETATE is not a strong fiber but can be extruded into fibers of different diameter and woven into fabrics that have the luxurious look of silk but do not wear like silk. Acetate does not absorb moisture readily but dries fast and resists shrinking. This is a resilient fabric that resists wrinkling in addition to being pliable and soft with a good drape. Triacetate is an improved acetate fabric which doesn’t melt as easy and is easier to care for. Remember, acetate in nail polish and nail polish remover will melt acetate as will alcohol so take care with perfumes and nail products including Super Glue.
ACRYLIC is a fine soft and luxurious fabric with the bulk and hand of wool. Light weight and springy, this fabric is non-allergenic, dries quickly, draws moisture away from the body and is washable. Acrylic does not take even a moderate amount of heat. Modacrylics are used in pile fabrics like fake fur and are more flame resistant.
LASTEX is an elastic fiber made from Latex. It is most often used with other fibers to create fabrics such as Spandex and foundation garments. Lastex will deteriorate after repeated washing and drying, losing its elasticity.
NYLON became a household word in 1940 when it was knitted into hosiery. In 1942 it was called into service for the armed forces use in parachutes, flak vests, combat uniforms, tires and many other vital military uses. Until the war was over nylon was not available to the public. Nylon became one of the most versatile fibers of the man-made fabric family. In addition to hosiery, nylon is used in , netting for bridal veils, and in carpeting.

Natural fibers and Wool Spinning

Yesterday we had a review on fibers and got to do a demo with wool spinning. Fibers are the building block of fabric and are very important. Most fibers are natural and come from nature, others are manufactured. The fiber we got to work with was wool and eventually we got to spin it into yarn which could be later used for fabric. Wool is one of the warmest fibers because it is very thick which would be great for the colder seasons. The coolest fabric would be cotton because it is an absorbent meaning that it absorbs moisture which is great for the summer when you sweat. Cotton also is great because it isn't irritating on the skin. The picture on the side is what we did. We did it by hand only with no machine. Since the wool is so fine you have to twist it until it slowly twists by itself.

Denim

Denim is universal which makes it a staple anytime and anywhere. Not to hyperbolize or anything, but denim is just the best. Truly. It takes any and all forms, from tops to shoes to, of course, jeans; it's endlessly versatile and appropriate to wear all year long. Which is why we're here. As big-time denim connoisseurs ourselves here at Fashionista, we're committed to bringing you the best of the best of the best styles for spring, broken down into seven categories for all your browsing — and, inevitably, shopping — needs.
There's a pineapple-embroidered jean jacket (courtesy of Levi's) that we have our collective eye on, and it's going to be hard to forget about those glitter-embellished (!) jorts, which you can find at Topshop. But we also provided plenty of tried-and-true classics, too, like our favorite Madewell cut-outs and distressed J.Crew jeans.

What is critical thinking? Why is critical thinking in the fashion world extremely important?

Critical thinking is that mode of thinking about any subject, content, or problem in which the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully analyzing, assessing, and reconstructing it. Critical thinking is self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, and self-corrective thinking. It presupposes assent to rigorous standards of excellence and mindful command of their use. It entails effective communication and problem-solving abilities.

Critical thinking is a rich concept that has been developing throughout the past 2500 years.  The term "critical thinking" has its roots in the mid-late 20th century.  We offer here overlapping definitions, together which form a substantive,  conception of critical thinking.

How is your group's collection like a story? How do the pieces complement each other? Why would your customer's want to put themselves in the middle of your story?

My group's collection is like a story by the inspiration from the clothes even though we gt feedback on the clothes, they still gave a spring feel. The pieces compliment each other by having soft colors going with each other. I think the pastel spring colors should put our consumers and customers in a romance story. I think customers want to be in the middle of our story because its soft and everyday. Its very feminine and nice also.

*What is your favorite era for clothing and why?

My favorite era for clothing is the 80s. I love all the fashion that came with it. I know most people think of neon colors but I think that was misunderstood because fashion was about pastel and kind of muted colors. For an example, I chose the Pretty In Pink fashion as an example.
There was structure in mainly the suits which I liked also. I really like the 80's for more of the "everyday " fashion like the pastels and how unique the style was. What I really love is the very bold shoulder suits that some women would wear.
This photo was found in an article wrote as "20 Style Mistakes We All Made in the '80s" which made me think the person who wrote this has no sense of style.  "Women expressed an image of wealth and success through shiny costume jewelry, such as large faux-gold earrings, pearl necklaces, and clothing covered with sequins and diamonds." says Wikipedia. I really love the idea of this because I love glamorous things and women being the center of it.
